Tourle Street & Cormorant Road

Kooragang Island, Newcastle, NSW (2016-2018)

PROJECT SUMMARY:

Linke & Linke Surveys provided surveys for the duplication of 3.8 kilometres of the road between Industrial Drive, Mayfield West and Egret Street, Kooragang, to provide two lanes in each direction in the Newcastle area. UAV/Drone technology was utilised for monthly reporting, including End of Month Quantities and project environmental controls.

This project was constructed to RMS Survey Specification G71 undertaken with Linke & Linke Surveys Project Quality Plan and multiple RMS Audits undertaken.

The data compiled was used for the following structural and road network designs of the road and bridge:

  • New two lane bridge on the western side of the existing bridge approximately 336 metres comprising 11 simply supported spans of varying lengths, with the eight river spans designed to align with the spans of the adjacent existing bridge to the east.

  • 2.5 metre shoulders along Cormorant Road to cater for on-road cyclists

  • Minimising impact on the Long Pond by mainly widening the road on the southern side of the existing Cormorant Road

  • Maintaining access to existing businesses along the corridor

  • Construction of 175 metre twin bridge structure at Bells Creek
